for our glorious 50th season summer production:
RUDDIGORE by Gilbert & Sullivan

     Those auditioning for lead roles or for chorus should bring a prepared piece to sing. An accompanist will be provided. All auditions will total five minutes. Please be prepared to present your best singing within the two minutes allotted. Another two minutes will be allotted for a cold reading of supplied script. While walkups will be accepted, those who have registered will be given preference as to time being seen.

     Ruddigore, or The Witch’s Curse, is a comic operetta in two acts from the brilliant Victorian team who produced HMS Pinafore, The Mikado, and The Pirates of Penzance. It’s a send-up of the traditional melodrama, featuring portraits of the ancestors of Sir Ruthven Murgatroyd who  come to life in the second act, stepping down from their picture frames to torment their heir with “terrible agonies.”

     The Summer Savoyards have produced at least one Gilbert & Sullivan operetta every summer since 1961. Founded by a couple of college students looking for something fun to occupy their summers, the Savoyards have since blossomed into a full-fledged community theatre group, welcoming community members of all ages to audition. The summer’s production will include sumptuous costumes, colorful sets, and a euphonious orchestra! Those interested in production and technical positions are also welcome to come to auditions and get involved.
